Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets took on the Utah Jazz at the Barclays Center on Sunday. Durant had a historic opportunity as he could have passed the Los Angeles Lakers Legend Jerry West in the all-time scoring list. He needed 17 points to pass West for 22nd on the scoring list.
And Durant didn’t miss the chance. He ended the game with 37 points and a victory to mark the historic occasion. Durant passed West in the third quarter on a patented mid-range pull up and the crowd gave Durant his props. KD is considered to be one of the greatest scorers ever and the best scorer of our generation. Despite all his injuries, KD has had the longevity to pass Mr. West. And he doesn’t seem to be done.

In the post-game interview, Durant was asked about passing West on the all-time scoring list. Durant said, ” I told somebody that, winning a championship with Jerry and having conversations with him and just knowing the history of who he is, He helped kick-start the NBA. It’s a honor. He’s just a legend in the game. A legend in our sport. Almost like the godfather of our sport”

“Good to see him back around the game, but it’s even better to pass him, you know, cause next time I see him, I’m gonna a little s**t about it”
Jerry West was a pioneer of the sport and he was an integral part of the Lakers–Celtics rivalry that dominated the NBA in the 60s and 70s. Even though West could secure only a single title in nine finals trips, he was respected by his opponents and peers. The NBA also honored West by making the logo in 1969.

Even for the great Kevin Durant, it’s an incredible honor to pass West on the all-time scoring list. West is considered a legend in the game and Durant made sure to give him his props. And with Durant being Durant, he also told that he will talk smack to “Mr. Clutch”.
