A Brooklyn Nets team without Kevin Durant? If that was at the beginning of the season, it would have seemed plausible. However, right now, things are different. He has led the team to the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a current record of 26-13. They have proven to be worthy contenders, one game at a time. But it was no secret that Durant had wanted an out from this team.
In a recent interview with Nick Freidall of ESPN, Kevin Durant revealed his thoughts on his infamous trade request, and how it differed from James Harden and Anthony Davis.

The Nets’ forward detailed that, unlike Harden and Davis, his trade request was put forward during the summertime. Both James Harden and Anthony Davis who wanted an early exit from the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Pelicans, respectively, asked for a trade mid-season.

Durant’s situation was compared to the other NBA players who had invariably invoked a pattern of disintegrating teams following a trade request.
Kevin Durant was convinced that he didn’t “interfere” during the actual season. He put in a request during the summertime when they weren’t playing any games. “What I didn’t get in the way of the games that was being played, so I felt like that’s the difference in everything“, he said. He reiterated that his demand didn’t get in the way of playing basketball.
Durant has been performing extremely well for the Brooklyn Nets. He is currently averaging 29.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
Why did Durant want out?
It seemed like Kevin Durant wasn’t happy with the lack of preparation from the Nets team. Last year, he revealed to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report his intent behind the request.

“Hold me accountable. Get on my a** in film if that?s going to help you get on everybody else?s head. I want to do more closeouts“, Durant recalled. He was emphatic that he wanted the Nets to work more, practice more, and play the game as best as possible, which according to him, was amiss.
Kevin Durant also said that the trade request was not put forward in the hopes of making his life “easier”. He continued, “Hell nah, I want to make everybody else’s life easier”.
