Kevin Durant and Andrew Wiggins Deserve Due Credit For Helping Stephen Curry and The Warriors Get Their NBA Championships, Claims Former Finals MVP

The Golden State Warriors have been one of the most disliked teams in recent years. However, their breathtaking offensive play, anchored by Stephen Curry, could enchant anyone. In these recent years, they have silenced the naysayers, displayed their champion mentality, and cemented the franchise as a dynasty.

The Warriors’ front office has done a terrific job of fielding formidable rosters year after year. Several players on those rosters claimed their maiden NBA championships. Regardless, they were an important part of the squad. In fact, a seasoned Warrior feels there were two such individuals on these rosters, without whom they would not have won it all.

Andre Iguodala recently appeared on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz”. The show’s host stated that it must have felt cool to win Andrew Wiggins and Kevin Durant a championship because they, most likely, wouldn’t have won one with their previous teams.“Yeah, but we wouldn’t have won a championship without them,” Iguodala replied.

He then went on to praise Wiggins for his performance in the 2022 NBA Finals.

“Wiggins really put on a show,” he said. “I saw it. I’m like, ‘Oh, you’re this good! Cause you don’t see him on a daily basis if he is on the opposing team…you only see him when you play him 4 times a year. So it’s like ‘the kids got talent but something’s missing blah blah blah,'” he added.

Iguodala went on to say that it’s not the player who’s bad, but the situation he’s in. The veteran forward is right when he says this. If the game plan doesn’t suit a player’s style of play, there is an obvious spotlight on his flaws.

Kevin Durant took his talents to the Bay Area in 2016, assembling a formidable squad. The Warriors were unfairly stacked owing to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson‘s deadeye shooting and Durant‘s exceptional scoring. The Warriors were already extremely good, but adding Durant to the mix made them an offensive powerhouse.

Durant played some of his finest basketball in a Warriors uniform, fitting in beautifully with Steve Kerr’s battle plan. During Durant’s 3 years with the Warriors, the team made it to the finals 3 straight years. They won 2 of them, with Durant taking home back-to-back Finals MVP honors. They were on the verge of winning the third before KD got injured.

Draymond Green even came out and said that the Warriors wouldn’t have beaten the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017 and 2018 without him.

Andrew Wiggins completed his redemption arc this year and silenced all his critics. After 5 years in Minnesota didn’t bore any fruits, the Canadian brought his talents to Golden State. And it’s fair to say that his abilities were unleashed when he donned the Warriors’ gold.
