A few days back, reports popped up about Kyrie Irving requesting a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. It came as a huge shock to many as the Nets were flying despite the early season controversy. However, Irving was not happy since the Nets were not willing to offer him a long-term contract extension. Reports suggested there were three front runners to land Irving; the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Phoenix Suns. It is now a done deal, as Irving has been traded to the Mavericks. After days of speculation and rumors flying around, the deal has finally gone through. The much-anticipated move sees Irving joining forces with Mavs superstar Luka Doncic. Now, the 2016 NBA champion has said his goodbyes to Nets fans on Twitter.

Kyrie Irving thanks Nets fans

Kyrie Irving took to Twitter to thank Brooklyn Nets fans for their support on and off the court during his time in Brooklyn. He wrote, “Thank you NetsWorld fans and supporters for the Love on and off the court. I will forever be grateful I got to live out my dream I had as a Kid with y’all. It will always be Love from me and my family.”

As soon as he posted this, fans flooded the comments section with their thoughts.

Many Nets fans appreciated Kyrie’s words and his four years with the team. On the other hand, Mavs fans were excited at the prospect of watching the eight-time All-Star team up with Luka Doncic.

Despite the efforts of the Los Angeles Lakers, they could not land the superstar. Interestingly, there were reports that claimed Nets owner Joe Tsai was determined to not trade Irving to the Lakers. However, fans remain hopeful that they can get Irving in the off-season when his contract expires. LakerNation is seemingly ready to be patient to witness the duo of LeBron James and Irving in the famous purple and gold jersey.

Irving joins Luka Doncic and the Mavs

The Dallas Mavericks will receive Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, a 2029 first-round pick, and two second-round picks in 2027 and 2029. After huge criticism from the fans for not adding a superstar to help Luka Doncic, the Mavs front office has delivered before the trade deadline on February 9.
