“Keep Living Your Truth”: Emotional Magic Johnson Shares Empowering Message for 31 YO Son on His Special Day

Magic Johnson is a proud father of three children. The ever-smiling Los Angeles Lakers legend always posts pictures with his family while on vacation or on a regular outing. Johnson conquered the NBA world before bringing his illustrious career to an end. However, the great man takes the most pride in being a father and a husband to his own. The 5x NBA champion recently posted an empowering message for one of his sons on social media on a special day.

Johnson has two kids with his wife, Cookie. The two have been married since 1991 and are going strong as ever. Magic’s recent post for his 31-year-old son is empowering yet emotional.

Magic Johnson showers love for his son on social media

Johnson’s son EJ Johnson is 31 years of age. He came out to his family at the age of 17 and was accepted with open arms. Later in 2013, EJ came out publicly following a video that was posted by TMZ where he was seen holding hands with his partner. EJ is now more known for being a TV personality. He had talked about opening up to his parents about his truth. As per the 31-year-old, it wasn’t the easiest task, but everyone understood him eventually. Johnson was “the last person” that EJ wanted to tell about his sexual orientation but he did take that decision and received all the support from his father.

The love that the NBA legend has for his kids is evident, and he makes sure that the world gets a glimpse of it as well. On the occasion of his son’s birthday, the proud father had a message written for him, along with a couple of pictures. Johnson wrote, “Happy Birthday to my son, EJ!! I love your pure heart and creativity! Keep living your truth, it’s what I love about you most! Have a great day!”

Although it wasn’t always as easy for Johnson. He had detailed how his son’s truth changed him as a man, too.

Magic Johnson confessed that EJ’s brave decision changed him as a person

The 12x NBA All-Star has talked about EJ’s coming out to him on multiple platforms. He had said that “He [EJ] changed me. He was so proud. This dude here is just so proud of who he is.” Johnson also added that in their family, there is always an abundance of support for everyone.

The Michigan native acknowledged that as a parent, it was his responsibility to make sure that his son finds a safe space around his father.
