Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s criticism of Kyrie Irving’s stance on vaccination, which he claimed was an indication of the American education system’s failure to educate the former Brooklyn Nets star, sparked a heated debate in the NBA community in 2022. While the controversy had somewhat subsided since Abdul-Jabbar’s initial comments, the statement was brought back from the dead, when a former NBA champion referenced the statement in a recent podcast to troll the host of the show.

Former NBA player John Salley recently appeared on the podcast Pierre’s Panic Room, hosted by Pierre Edwards. During the episode, Salley found a way to bring up a statement made by NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar about Kyrie Irving’s education, in order to mock Edwards.

John Salley recently used Abdul-Jabbar’s statement, in which he argued that Irving’s decision to not to get vaccinated for COVID-19 was an example of how the American education system has failed him, as a way to criticize the podcast host Pierre Edwards’ reading skills. Salley said, “You know Kareem said that school had failed Kyrie and I think he meant Pierre, because that reading was horrendous. Like you knew you were going to read it before we came on air but you still didn’t get the words right.”

Incidentally, Pierre had been reading some superchat comments on his show before starting the show by formally introducing Salley. Meanwhile, he seemed to struggle badly pronouncing the names of the chatters. Therefore, the former ‘Bad Boy’ Piston couldn’t let go of the opportunity to troll his counterpart at the very start of the show.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s actual statement was, “Kyrie Irving’s thought process is an example of what happens when the education system fails”. While this statement was made in a serious context, former NBA player John Salley used it playfully to mock the host of the podcast he recently appeared on, Pierre Edwards.
