Kareem Abdul-Jabbar bestowed upon Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors the status that has been much debated in the NBA community over the past few weeks. In fact, Abdul-Jabbar admitted that Stephen Curry and company are now officially a dynasty in the sport of basketball. Such high praise from one of the best players of all time, if not the very best, surely provides a strong argument for the Warriors in the dynasty debate.

The Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics 4-2 in the 2022 NBA Finals to secure their fourth championship in eight years. Stephen Curry bagged his fourth championship ring and first-ever Finals MVP trophy after the victory.

The Dubs returned to the NBA Finals after a two-year hiatus and sealed the deal in a convincing manner. In fact, many talking heads discounted the chances of the Warriors, ravaged with injuries, ever making a return in the NBA Finals. But the Dubs astonished everyone with a strong showing in this year’s postseason and putting forward a strong claim in the dynasty discussion.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar calls the Warriors a dynasty

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar declared that the Warriors have cemented their place in basketball history as a legitimate dynasty. “Four NBA titles in eight years” said the legendary Lakers Center, “That is a dynasty“. These four words from the veteran basketball mind puts Stephen Curry and the Warriors in the same category as Larry Bird’s Celtics and Michael Jordan’s Bulls in the 80s and 90s, respectively.

In other words, Abdul-Jabbar invites the Warriors to the dinner table of the greatest NBA teams ever. One of them being the 80s Lakers led by Earvin Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar himself.

In fact, Kareem and Magic created one of the NBA’s first dynasties in the 80s Lakers. The rivalry between the Lakers and the Celtics in that decade helped propel the NBA to its current glory. Therefore, Abdul-Jabbar’s words bear a lot of authority on the subject.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar reserved high praise for the centerpiece of the Warriors‘ success. “No one could watch Stephen Curry put in 43 points and not celebrate that a human being is capable of that level of play“, said the 7’2” giant.

However, the 6-time NBA champion didn’t want to take away any credit from the team. In fact, he compared the Warriors to the sun and Stephen Curry to a moon. Therefore, he reflected on the greatness exuded by the entire roster.
