Kareem Abdul-Jabbar doubts Fox channel for absurd mistake during Pride Day celebrations

June 11 was Pride Day. To commemorate the day, occasion, and pride month Amy Schneider had the grateful opportunity to throw out the first pitch in the game between San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. The game was being played at the Oracle Park. Amy, had an amazing 40-game winning streak on Jeopardy! Local station Fox was the broadcaster for the game and they made a blunder. Kareem reported the entire incident in his segment called Kareem Calls the Shots in Sports.

Instead of showing Schneider’s pitch, Fox cut to NASCAR driver Kurt Busch throwing an opening pitch. He did it on Thursday, which was three days earlier on June 8th.

Kareem wrote, “Maybe it was a mistake and not the deliberate pushing of Fox’s conservative agenda that tries to silence anyone they don’t agree with. Maybe it’s different than Fox’s policy to not show the live Jan. 6 hearings on its news channel because the testimony contradicted what their pundits have said. Or their decision to have no commercials during the live broadcast so their viewers wouldn’t switch channels. (Ah, the pursuit of truth.) Maybe.”

Fox explained that they were promoting the airing of Sunday’s event which was the NASCAR race. This was to be held at Sonoma Raceway and Kurt Busch is set to be the star of the event. Moreover, this promo led to a terrible mistake from the broadcasters which Kareem questioned.

Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper clarified the next day. He corrected the Fox broadcast. He conveyed that the implied assumption of Kurt Busch throwing the first pitch was not true. Duane gave Amy her due. He shared that it was she who made the first throw on Pride Day.

Unfortunately, the viewers were left to believe that it was Kurt who threw the pitch on June 11, which ultimately kind of dampened the impact of that event. Nonetheless, Amy Schneider did throw the pitch and stood in celebration of Pride day for all the people celebrating it all over the world.
