Kanye West isn’t a stranger to controversies, but dragging Michael Jordan into one is obviously something he shouldn’t have done. It’s something he is paying the price for after all these years as well. It’s another thing to mess with Taylor Swift with arguable lyrics but messing with the GOAT is a whole other ball game.
Back in 2015, West released a song named “Facts” that was instantly a hit. However, he used a line in it that clearly rubbed Jordan off the wrong way. It said, “Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman.” This basically implied that his Yeezy brand was more successful and better than the Jordans.
With MJ, he takes everything personally, whether it’s something on the court or off it. Naturally, West hasn’t been able to speak to Jordan ever since this unfortunate sequence of events.

In his most recent interview with N.O.R.E, he expressed, “Jordan still won’t meet with me. I’m trying to meet with Michael Jordan. I’m like, ‘It’s a song, man.’ Michael Jordan said this thing like, ‘Why y’all acting like Virgil [Abloh] made me hot? These shoes is hot.”

Kanye West tried to apologize to Michael Jordan as well
When Ye used this line in his song, the statement can be considered somewhat accurate. At the time, Adidas sneakers were selling like hotcakes, and much more than Nike’s Jordan brand. The rapper choosing to sign with Adidas was the biggest reason for this.
At first in 2009, West was in cahoots with Nike when the first time Nike Air Yeezy hit the market, and eventually, Air Yeezy II also made it into the stores. However, Kanye and Nike’s relationship worsened after that, eventually leading him to switch to Adidas. This was a big deal for Adidas, who saw a significant jump in their sales when Ye decided to join them.
However, the 44-year-old rapper admitted in 2016 itself that those lyrics were never meant to diss Jordan. In fact, they were actually directed towards the Nike CEO at the time. He tweeted, “I’m sorry Michael Jordan I love and respect you. My beef was with Mark Parker. I respect you so much.”

But it seems like there is no changing Jordan’s mind. And he probably couldn’t care less because as of now, the Jordan brand is at the top of the sneaker world. Fans are always thrilled to see NBA players and rappers bond over their common interest in sneakers. Unfortunately for Ye, it led to ending his relationship with the GOAT even before it began.
