Kyrie Irving has been the recipient of harsh criticism lately. On Twitter, the Brooklyn Nets star shared an Amazon link to a film which is based on a supposedly antisemitic book. And as per Rolling Stone magazine, the film is filled with antisemitic tropes. Therefore, countless have perceived Irving’s tweet as a promotion of the film, landing him in hot water.
Throughout this entire process, public outrage has been directed at the former NBA champion. However, ESPN analyst Jay Williams feels that Jeff Bezos’ Amazon deserves the same level of condemnation that Irving has endured.

The former NBA star turned to Twitter and sent out a tweet, stating, “Platforms have to denounce antisemitism just as much as Kyrie does. PERIOD”.

Through his tweet, Williams argued that, although Irving must take measures to denounce antisemitism, platforms such as Amazon must do the same. He highlights how the player has endured all the heat, but that such platforms should also take some accountability for their actions.

It should be stressed, however, that Williams is not defending Irving for promoting a film with antisemitic tropes. In fact, he recently vented his displeasure with the entire situation on First Take as well. “Kyrie amplified it to 14.7 million people, but the platform is profiting and promoting it to billions of people,” Williams said. He further stated that Irving deserves all the heat, but so does Amazon.
Williams’ condemnation of Amazon over the Kyrie Irving situation sparked backlash from fans
Kyrie Irving has been submerged under major condemnation following his controversial tweet. In fact, the Brooklyn Nets even suspended their star for “no less than five games” for his ?failure to disavow antisemitism”. However, since then, the tweet has been deleted and Irving made sure to issue a public apology through his Instagram.
Now, Jay Williams argues that the criticism Irving has received is justified. However, there has been little to no backlash calling for Amazon to remove the film from their platform. Furthermore, the Nets and the Anti-Defamation League reportedly sent a letter to Amazon urging that the film be removed or an explanation for the content issues be added. Nonetheless, no step seems to be taken by the 928 billion-dollar company.

Williams’ argument that Amazon deserves the same ridicule as Kyrie Irving drew outrage from numerous Twitter users. Here are some of the reactions to the ESPN analyst’s tweet.
Just stop man. It's embarrassing

Are you asking people to now restrict books? Where would that end?
— Mase One (@one_mase) November 4, 2022
Thats fine. But its two completely different conversations. Thanks to Kyrie that film is now a bestseller on the evil platform

There is a difference and you know it.. libraries carry books written by hitler, and they should carry good and bad history, we can’t erase it. Amazon in essence is an online library.. but an individual promoting it is different, and Amazon doesn’t promote it

The platform isn't the one suspended. Deal with Kyrie then head to Amazon. Can't even get Kyrie to apologize, so good luck with Amazon.
