Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson seldom forgets to adulate the triumphs of the Los Angeles Lakers, which was once his home. Besides, the five-time NBA champion also keeps a close eye on every other player who dons the purple and gold. The 5x-NBA champion had patronized a young teammate of LeBron James a few months back. Now, the same youngster rose to the occasion and matched Magic to make history. Some fans, however, are overlooking the Lakers’ sensation’s latest achievement, as the LA side got outplayed by the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 2 on Wednesday.

Ever since the commencement of the playoffs, Rui Hachimura has been the talk of the town among the Lakers’ fandom. Now, the Japanese sensation has joined his patron Magic Johnson to claim a rare feat.

Having won five rings with the ‘Showtime Lakers‘ in the 80s, Magic Johnson happens to be one of the biggest names in the Lakers’ folklore. Therefore, getting approved by Magic is something every Lakers player aspires to achieve. Rui Hachimura is one such player who got the seal of approval from the five-time NBA champion. In January, Magic took to Twitter and said, “Laker Nation, Rui Hachimura is going to really help the Lakers on both ends of the court.”

Magic Johnson’s observation turned out to be true. Hachimura tallied 29 game-deciding points in the Lakers’ first matchup against the Grizzlies. After seeing this game-winning performance, Magic once again took to Twitter and showered praises on the Japanese sensation. Magic proudly proclaimed that Hachimura has been saving the best of his abilities for the right time. Now, Hachimura pulled off something which only Magic had earlier achieved in franchise history.

Fans have mixed reactions to Rui Hachimura’s feat

LeBron James did not fail to show his playoff mettle as he led the list of scorers with 28 points. LeBron was closely followed by Rui Hachimura, who added 20 points to his credit. Hachimura put in these numbers after coming off the bench. In the process, the 25-year-old became the first Lakers player to score 20 points off the bench in back-to-back playoff games since Magic Johnson in 1996. However, the fans cease to acknowledge the feat as LeBron and Hachimura had put in their efforts for a lost cause.

“Who cares they lost and pissed me off. How y?all play worst than game 1 just awful trash,” said a fan overlooking Hachimura’s historical achievement.

A fan chimed in with a stringent reality check.

However, there were some fans who applauded Hachimura’s achievement. One fan pointed out how Grizzlies star Desmond Bane had seemingly guaranteed that Hachimura won’t be able to repeat his Game 1 heroics.
