One of the most unexpected trades that took place before the deadline was the Kyrie Irving trade. The Brooklyn Nets and the Dallas Mavericks came to an agreement that sent Irving to the Mavericks to pair with their star player, Luka Doncic. Now, the Mavericks have split two games since Irving joined the team. However, there is already some chatter that the 2016 NBA champion may not be signing an extension with his new team.

Many Mavericks fans urged the Dallas front office to get some help for their star player, Luka Doncic. And adding Kyrie Irving to the roster sure put all those demands to rest as fans were ecstatic to see Doncic get paired with a seven-time All-Star.

Now, Kyrie Irving may not be inclined to sign a contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks. This may not be good news for Dallas fans as Irving and Doncic do have the potential to make a huge splash.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, ?I think it’s more likely than not Kyrie Irving stays in Dallas. Just because of what they invested in him. And his chance to get the kind of contract he wants.?

The reason why Irving and the Nets parted ways was that they could not come to an agreement for a contract extension. Irving demanded a four-year 198.5 million contract in free agency and the Nets were not willing to pay that much.

Irving had been under a great amount of scrutiny at the start of the season. So, he made sure to make up for lost assets in his new contract. Irving had lost his shoe deal with Nike and had also turned down a contract extension earlier from the Nets.

So, it may have seemed fair to him that he wanted to make up for the lost time.

Will Irving find his way back to his former teammate?

Despite the trade to the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers fans were still convinced that Irving would want to join forces with his former teammate, LeBron James once again. The two did win a championship in Cleveland back in 2016.
