The NFL playoffs took place on January 29 and the league already has the two teams who will be facing each other at the Super Bowl. The big matchup will take place on February 12 at State Farm Stadium. While the Kansas City Chiefs vs the Cincinnati Bengals game itself was nerve-racking for the fans, a surprising Michael Jordan-Clyde Drexler comparison made by sports commentator Tony Romo managed to gain attention from NFL fans and not for the right reasons.

The San Francisco 49ers fell short to the Philadelphia Eagles by a huge margin of 7-31. Whereas, the Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious over the Cincinnati Bengals with a thin lead, scoring 23 against the Bengals’ 20.

Fans often compare the well-known rivalry between NFL quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow to that of NFL superstars Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. This was the second consecutive year that both QBs battled against each other to move forward to the Super Bowl. While Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals managed to defeat Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs in the previous year’s AFC championship, the same wasn’t repeated in this year’s playoffs.

In the third quarter of the game, the Chiefs were tied at 13 points. However, they got a six-point lead when M Valdes-Scantling scored a touchdown. Just then, former Dallas Cowboys player and commentator Tony Romo recalled the iconic 1992 NBA Finals that witnessed Michael Jordan and Clyde Drexler face each other.

His Airness didn’t like the comparisons with Drexler

Former Portland Trail Blazers superstar Clyde Drexler was one of the best players in the league, only lacking behind NBA legend Michael Jordan in the MVP race. The 1992 NBA Finals gained a vast amount of attention as everyone had anticipated Drexler’s Blazers to defeat Jordan’s Bulls.

Fans, media, and analysts had widely speculated the outcome at the time. However, what they probably didn’t anticipate was the highly competitive Jordan to defeat the Blazers in Game 1 itself.

Part of this drive to win came from the fact the 6x NBA champion didn’t want people to draw comparisons between him and Drexler. While he considered Drexler a threat, he was highly offended by the comparisons between them.
