The NBA has recently opened an investigation of tampering over Kyle Lowry’s deal between Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat. The former Orlando Magic star who recently played for the Mavericks, JJ Redick has picked up an open fight with David Griffin over the NBA’s ongoing investigation.
David Griffin is the executive vice-president of basketball operations for New Orleans Pelicans. Lonzo Ball became a restricted free agent this summer and the Pelicans traded him to Chicago Bulls in a sign-and-trade deal earlier this month. Redick has called out David Griffin over Lonzo Ball’s deal as well.

JJ Redick took a subtle jab at David Griffin
Redick hosts a podcast named ‘The Old Man and the Three’. In one of his recent podcasts, he spoke out against David Griffin.
“It’s a little bit for show probably, I guess,” JJ Redick said.
“I don’t know. I think you would probably have to ask the guy who’s asking for the investigation. Some teams cleared a ton of cap space to get Kyle, and it didn’t happen. And then Lonzo [Ball] leaving so you have to ask that guy, that guy complaining.” [h/t heatnation.com]

The rules and regulations regarding tampering are mentioned in Articles 35 and 35A. One of the most famous cases of tampering was when LA Lakers were fined $500,000 in 2017. There were some contacts between Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka and Paul George, while the latter was still under a contract at Indiana Pacers. The NBA investigation found it an unauthorized contact and punished the offending team.
The NBA will examine if Kyle Lowry’s sign-and-trade deal between Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat involved any tampering. They will now look into the deal if Miami had any contact with Kyle Lowry before the initiation of free agency.
