However, after a series of unfortunate events, Udoka couldn’t run it back with his team this season.

In September, Ime Udoka was issued a year-long suspension by the team for violating company policies, after his relationship with a female employee in the organization came to light. To fill the shoes of Udoka, the Celtics appointed Joe Mazzulla as the interim head coach. However, according to sources, Mazzulla will retain the title for the foreseeable future, despite Udoka’s uncertain future in the NBA.

It has been a roller-coaster ride for fans in Boston this year. From making the NBA Finals and losing their head coach for the year to having the best record in the league. Amid all the drama and controversy, the Celtics have come out on top with the best record (24-10) in the league as the first seed in the Eastern Conference. To the surprise of many, Udoka’s absence has not resulted in a failed season for the Celtics. Moreover, among many factors, the astounding rise of Joe Mazzulla as an elite head coach has done wonders for the team.

However, despite the continued success under Mazzulla this season, the top brass of the Celtics don’t have any plans to change his job title. According to sources, the Boston Celtics will retain the ‘interim’ title of Mazzulla till the end of the 2022-23 season. As it turns out, Mazzulla is aware and understanding of the decision and will continue to coach till the end of the season.

It was also reported that the management has discussed their future intentions with the interim head coach. Regardless, the Celtics won’t explore any significant coaching changes, at least during the season. Udoka’s suspension will end on June 30, 2023. Following this, Udoka’s decision will dictate the Cetlics’ way forward.

In September, Ime Udoka was issued a year-long suspension after citing multiple team and organization policy violations. It was reported that the primary cause behind the suspension was Udoka’s relationship with a female Celtics employee.
