Did NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal just throw shade at rapper Kanye West? It seems like it. The four-time champion recently shared a short clip on his Instagram story and it seems to be Shaq’s way of getting back at West. The clip showed a photo of West and fellow rapper Jay Z with the latter’s song playing in the background. Interestingly, the lyrics and a fan’s comment posted on the clip stood out the most.

Former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Shaquille O’Neal has never been one to back down from voicing his opinions. Evidently, this habit of his has caused him to lock horns with Kanye West. Moreover, it seems like the ongoing social media war between the two of them is nowhere near the end. The Diesel posted a short video with Jay Z’s song ‘Kill Jay-Z’ playing in the background. However, the lyrics seemed to be a silent message to West from O’Neal.

“You’re walking around like you’re invincible. You dropped out of school, you lost your principles,” read the lyrics.

As if the lyrics were not enough, a fan’s comment was attached to the video that read, “Jay Z was right about Kanye West.

Several NBA personalities have condemned Kyrie Irving for his controversial post and his initial unapologetic behavior. One of them was the 15x NBA All-Star. While not many have come forth in Irving’s support, rapper Kanye West jumped to the Brooklyn Nets star’s defense and slammed Shaq in the process. Hence, the social media war between the two famous personalities began.

How did the Shaquille O’Neal-Kanye West war begin?

The banter between Shaquille O’Neal and Kanye West first started when the former gave his take on the Kyrie Irving controversy. On TNT’s Inside the NBA, Shaq stated that it hurt him to talk about matters that end up “dividing the game” instead of bringing everyone together. Shaq refused to speak on behalf of Irving and even called him an “idiot.” Evidently, this did not sit well with West, who called out to the Hall of Famer over his relations with Canadian billionaire Jamie Salter.

It did not take long for the former MVP to respond to West’s tweet. Shaq replied that the rapper did not know him. Furthermore, O’Neal suggested West to worry about his own business.

The league has been neck-deep in controversies over the past few weeks and Shaq has addressed almost each and every one of them. From the upcoming change in the Phoenix Suns’ ownership to the Golden State Warriors altercation, there has hardly been a quiet day. And amidst all that, the NBA season 2022-23 began on October 18.
