James Harden Once Gave Rare Glimpse Into His Sad Past: “My Dad Was In And Out of My Life, In And Out of Jail. I Was Fortunate Enough to Have a Strong Mom.”

The Times conducted an interview with James Harden back in 2017 in which he talked about his basketball career at that point, his performance, his transition to point guard, and some insider stories of his dating life. Additionally, he shared a glimpse of his childhood and mentioned his father and the struggles they faced at an early age. 

He ranked third in the NBA scoring during that season for the Houston Rockets. During that season, Jordan improved his game and took more shots for the team. Additionally, he helped bring the Rockets to the all-star game. Undoubtedly, a top tier season for ‘The Beard’.

James Harden advised George Karl not to get involved in players’ personal lives

When asked about his childhood, he mentioned he has been raised by a single mother in Los Angeles. Basketball coach George Karl previously stated in a statement that players without fathers get negative behavior, as he said in a statement he made back in 2016:

“Kenyon (Martin) and Carmelo carried two big burdens: all that money and no father to show them how to act like a man,” As reported by the NY Post, Karl wrote. [h/t sbnation.com]

When Harden was asked about his response to this, he said, “George Karl can’t come at people’s family like that. Because each individual feels different about their situation and they react differently. My dad was in and out of my life, in and out of jail. I was fortunate enough to have a strong mom. Then I got to high school, coach Pera helped me with that. So I didn’t go off the deep end. But some guys do.”

Continuing by saying that some issues are personal for players, he added that coaches can criticize the players’ performance, but they cannot attack their personal lives, especially families.

Jordan has spoken openly about his past life and struggles in many interviews. The fact that people know where he comes from and sees how far he has come now is pretty inspiring to the viewers who watch him in the NBA.
