The LA Lakers labored to live up to expectations that were placed on them in the offseason. Despite securing a slew of headline acquisitions before the season started, the franchise, spearheaded by LeBron James, failed to even make the play-in tournament. One of those headline acquisitions was Carmelo Anthony.

On a veteran minimum deal, the 38-year-old took his abilities to Los Angeles. Anthony was a consistent contributor to the Lakers’ scoreboard from the outset. Despite a downturn in the second half of the season, he concluded the season with respectable stats. He averaged 13.3 points per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the field (highest since the 2014-15 season) and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc.

Now the question remains whether the Lakers and Carmelo Anthony will run it back. However, according to emerging reports, the New York Knicks are eyeing a reunion with their superstar. Nearly 5 years after being shipped to Oklahoma City, Anthony might resurrect the energy that Madison Square Garden has been craving since he drifted away.

According to reports, the Knicks are having internal discussions about bringing Carmelo Anthony back. While the Knicks have discussed the possibility, the team is apparently more intent on assembling a playoff-contending squad.

Fans on Twitter react to the rumors surrounding a Knicks-Anthony reunion

The New York Knicks concluded this season with a dismal 37-45 record and failed to make the playoffs. This implies they have more pressing concerns than preparing a possible reunion tour for Anthony. The likelihood of him returning to the Knicks elicited mixed reactions from fans on Twitter.

Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks: A tragic love tale

Carmelo Anthony brought his talents from Denver Nuggets, the team that drafted him, to New York Knicks in 2011. The Knicks went to great lengths to acquire a player who was once considered the NBA’s most feared scorer.

Anthony was expected to pull the franchise out of the dirt and into the glory of championship basketball. The move, however, didn’t bore any fruits neither for Anthony nor the Knicks.

With Melo leading the charge, the Knicks won only one postseason series. The franchise from Big Apple struggled significantly to surround him with talent, with Anthony bearing the majority of the team’s scoring output.

They expected the duo of him and Amar’e Stoudemire to perform wonders together, but they were a mismatch from the outset. This incompatibility was likely the most critical element in their collapse.

Both he and the team are to fault. The Knicks never offered him sufficient aid, and he had flaws and bad judgments of his own that he couldn’t surmount. The Knicks eventually let their star walk in a salary-dump trade to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he played only for one season.

Since then, Carmelo Anthony has become more of a journeyman than a certified superstar. Since leaving Oklahoma City, the former scoring champion has suited for 3 different teams. Anthony, however, may take this long journey back to New York.
