WNBA Star Brittney Griner returned home earlier last week after having spent almost 11 months in a Russian prison. Her return was possible only after continued negotiations around a prisoner swap. Eventually, both Russia and US signed off on a deal. Griner saw the light at the end of the tunnel while Viktor Bout made his way back to Russia after serving years of punishment. Following this prisoner swap, many rejoiced. However, there were those around the world who found this swap to be unfair. One of them was comedian, Andrew Schulz.

On the FLAGRANT podcast, Andrew Schulz opened up about his views on the Brittney Griner case. He stated that swapping Viktor Bout (infamously known as the Merchant of death) in for a basketball player was unfair. Schulz called this to be more of a political move and display. He said, “they made the trade for only Brittney for political points. It seems like it’s a little bit of like a virtue signal if you will.” Schulz also highlighted that ex-marine Paul Whelan is still stuck in Russia. Following this, he called for the Biden Administration to do something bigger for the country.
Andrew Schulz’s massive plea after the Brittney Griner release
While stating the political and unfair nature of the prisoner swap, Andrew Schulz pointed out that the Biden Administration should probably work on “letting out all the weed offenders, the non-violent drug offenders”. His co-host Aakash Singh weighed in and stated that the administration is working on this issue as well.
Here’s where Schulz had an issue. He claimed that there was no need for work to be done especially when the president could exercise the federal laws instead of waiting for the state governments to take an action.
Alexx Media chipped in and claimed for this to be tough. He said, “If you just do this blanket thing of oh just non-violent weed sh*t, oh this mot***fu***, we know he killed a bunch of people but we can’t charge him on that and now you just let him go? It’s tough”.

Schulz understood this point of view and said, “It’s like getting Al Capone for tax evasion”. The Al Capone reference highlights the notorious alleged gangster who was charged with tax evasion as his other crimes couldn’t be proven or linked to him at the very moment. No case was held together against him until the tax evasion came to light. However, later on, he was prosecuted for his infamous crimes and activities.
