Recently, renowned psychologist Dr. Carl Hart questioned the logic behind Griner’s arrest in a recent tweet.

Hart is among the first tenured African American professors at Columbia University. He is an expert in behaviors associated with drug usage and has been advocating for the decriminalization of recreational drugs for adults for quite some time. Hart has been speaking on Griner’s detainment with his regular tweets.
Meanwhile, Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison for the smuggling and possession of reportedly less than a gram of marijuana. The customs authorities detained Griner in February after the discovery of vape cartridges filled with cannabis oil in her luggage. Her recent appeal was denied last month, triggering her transfer to a Russian penal colony.
Psychologist calls for the release of Brittney Griner
In his recent tweet, Hart questioned the logic behind the detention of BG. He advocated that Griner should have the right to make decisions about her own body, while simultaneously calling for the revoking of global drug prohibition laws.

Hart gave the example of highly physical and violent sports like the NFL and UFC to advocate for Griner’s freedom. He felt like the drug prohibition laws in Russia that caused BG’s detainment were unjust.
During Brittney Griner’s trial, her attorneys presented a report. The document stated that BG’s team doctor prescribed the use of cannabis for treating pain. However, the argument did not lead to any fruitful outcomes for the 2014 WNBA champ.?
