Al Horford, 36, has been in the NBA for over a decade. The 6’9” center, over the years, has made quite the name for himself by earning 5x All-Star selections. In the present day, Horford plays for the Boston Celtics; and from the looks of it, he will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Al Horford will play with Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics through age 39
A WOJ bomb that hit social media today shocked the NBA world and left it in shambles. Boston Celtics center Al Horford has agreed on a two-year, $20 million contract extension; that ties him to the franchise through his 39th birthday in 2025. The All-Star center is in the last year of a four-deal worth $109 Million. Moreover, he will earn over $26.5 Million this season.
After the news came to light, the former No.3 overall pick, and the Celtics faced major backlash. Due to his advanced age, Horford does not command the similar frenzy of a young star signing with the team. With Jayson Tatum (24) and Jaylen Brown (26) heading the charge, the Celtics are in a prime position for a potential dynasty lasting years. Thus many fans have disapproved of Horford’s extension in line with a goal of sustained dominance in the future. However, some fans have lauded the team’s decision to retain Horford’s experience and leadership presence in the locker room. Regardless, the announcement received mixed reactions from fans.
