The Los Angeles Lakers have gone through an upsetting off-season. The fans were full of delight when LA was the hot destination for Kyrie Irving. But talks have since reportedly fallen through. With no significant moves, the Lakers have been falling apart. However, with NBA All-Star Donovan Mitchell being one of the popular names, he could pave the way for the team in purple and gold.

After the Utah Jazz let go of three-time DPOY Rusy Gobert, Mitchell’s mind was “unsettled“. The Utah Jazz had declared their interest in working around the All-Star. However, several teams have come on his radar. And the New York Knicks have made the most noise. But this trade could be a golden opportunity for the Lakers to open talks with one of their old faces, Julius Randle.

According to Marc Stein, if the Knicks manage to land the Utah Jazz’s scoring sensation, the purple and gold could be the real winners.

Los Angeles Lakers looking to reunite with former star

Randle was still a young player looking to make his name. As a youngster, the Knicks star didn’t have his best season. However, his potential was flowing out. Likewise, when he got the major role with the Knicks, he jumped into an All-Star season. In the 2020/2021 season, the forward averaged 24.1 points and 10 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, after taking a dip last season, the former Laker has become an enemy of the city. Likewise, there may be another destination written in his destiny after this off-season.

While the city of LA wanted to see Kyrie Irving in purple and gold, Randle could add another dynamic. As a physically dominant scorer, he becomes yet another interior threat. Paired up with a healthy Anthony Davis, the former Laker star could make for one of the most dominant frontcourts in the league. Moreover, having LeBron James take care of the offense takes the pressure off Randle. While arguably not being the best with the ball, Randle can be relaxed and focus on his true powers when not asked to be the main scoring man on a team.

As for the Lakers, a perimeter threat is still due. However, if Randle’s nightly 24 points come in, they probably only need a consistent shot maker. With a wide range of shooters in the league, the Lake Show could be back on their journey to the top. But it all comes down to if the Knicks will make the push to make Donovan Mitchell their star.
