Los Angeles Lakers fans have been waiting for good news for a while now. Last season had not particularly been kind to them. Riding on the hopes of winning a championship again, they crashed to not qualify for playoffs even. Not just last season, but even 2020-21 wasn’t as good as they had expected it to be. Especially after winning a championship in 2020.

Now, amid trade rumors and packages for Russell Westbrook coming fresh every day, Lakers fans were desperately waiting for good news. Is the signing of this seven-foot giant that?

The Lakers on Wednesday announced the signing of 7’1″ Jay Huff to an exhibit-10 contract via their Twitter handle. The big guy from Virginia was a particular standout during this year’s Summer League. Playing for the South Bay Lakers last year in the G-League, he averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 2.4 blocks while shooting 64.1 percent from the field.

He also played for the Lakers last year for four games but was on very limited playing time. This signing is particularly important for the Lakers and their fans because of the absence of a good center on the team.

Him being the rim-protector he is, the Lakers could definitely use that talent to their benefit. Even fans rejoiced saying, “It’s about damn time” at the decision. Check out more reactions from NBA Twitter:

This signing is also special because of what has been going around the Lake Show for a while now. With all the negativity surrounding Russell Westbrook‘s trade rumors, this sure is a huge break for them. Although, one signing arguably won’t make things all right. More fixes certainly have to be made. But this sure is a step in the right direction.

Lake-Show predictions in 2022

The Lakers definitely have a star-studded lineup with a lot of potential and confidence in them. With Anthony Davis returning from his injury, LeBron James showing his heroics at the Drew league even in his 37th year, and Westbrook with the newly shown faith in him, the expectations will likely be high for the 2022-23 season.
