The style of gameplay in the NBA has drastically changed over the years. With players playing and defending multiple positions, the game is no longer reliant on stars being pure guards, forwards, or centers. NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently gave his take on how much the game has evolved, using the example of Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, it has fans puzzled that Abdul-Jabbar perhaps may have been jealous of the freedom the players have today.?
The game back in the day was heavily restricted to players solely excelling at their specific positions. Rarely did anyone see players performing at multiple positions back then, and even if they did, it was not a favorite with the coaches at the time.?

Lot of ppl reading Kareem’s comment wrong. He’s say he himself was over coached, not Giannis. He’s praising Giannis and probably wishes it was apart of his game to take it coast to coast when he got a rebound

Hakeem was saying this same thing in a recent interview, said if a pg passed it to him when he was outside the paint they would be subbed out of the game immediately lmao

The old style of coaching really limited players in the past.

What was the game like back in the day?
Back in the day, it was the responsibility of the point guard to bring the ball up the court. While the center was supposed to post up in the paint and not wander outside for a jump shot. Even the pick and roll was strictly adhered to. Big men would only roll to the paint, instead of fading for an open jump shot.?
