Recently, the NBA announced that the MVP trophy would be now designed and named after five-time MVP Michael Jordan. Designs and details of the trophy were also published online. As per reports, Mark Smith was the designer of the trophy. Notably, Smith is the same man who designed the Air Jordans for MJ.

Following this, a total of six awards have been renamed after some greats of the game, the league announced. Adam Silver, the league commissioner, said, “As we recognise the league’s top performers each season, we also pay tribute to the legends who embody these prestigious awards.” With that said, a former NBA point guard had another idea in his mind.

Jamal Crawford took to Twitter to express his strongest wish after the news of the MVP trophy being renamed. He stated that it would be a good time for the league to change the NBA logo to Kobe Bryant. Additionally, he said “Thanks in advance!!” 

Not to forget that the Lakers’ legend, the late Kobe Bryant, has already the All-Star MVP award named after him. Having said that, fans weren’t happy with Crawford’s wish.

Fans sound off on Jamal Crawford’s desire:

Fans were quick to respond to Jamal Crawford’s tweet. While some fans posted a picture of Kobe Bryant as the NBA logo, many were disheartened by how it looked. One fan, in particular, said, “That’s a great pic of Kobe… but it’d be a terrible logo.”

Many also stated that if the logo would ever get redesigned, then no one apart from Michael Jordan would be worthy of being on the league’s logo. Fans sounded off on the idea of having Bryant as the logo while also stating that there were others who were more worthy.

The Michael Jordan Trophy:

Covered in the color of bronze, the Michael Jordan MVP trophy bares details that highlight Jordan’s numerous accolades. With a weight of 23.6 pounds, the trophy is 23.6 tall, which is a tribute to the famous 23 jersey number and Jordan’s 6 NBA championship rings. As per a report by CNN, the trophy “features a player breaking out of a rock to reach for a crystal basketball”.

Michael Jordan’s former teammate, Steve Kerr, was filled with pride while he spoke about what this feat could mean for Jordan. He said, “Oh, I think it means a lot to him”. Additionally, Kerr stated that Jordan was the obvious choice considering his contribution to the game.
