When Lebron James extended his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, it was reported that he was to be enabled with a good, efficient supporting cast. But the Lakers have been far from a credible threat this season. They are the 13th seed of the Western Conference with a poor record of 14-21. They are in no way close to the dynasty that they once were. There have been many speculations in the recent past that the Lakers are looking to dust up their roster. But new reports suggest a crazy trade involving their superstar, LeBron James.

According to Jonathan Sherman of the Lakers Daily, the Lakers are looking to trade LeBron James this upcoming offseason. The NBA Twitter went into a meltdown. One fan wrote, “It was nice while it lasted“.

NBA insider Chriss Mannix predicted that the franchise is open to trading LeBron James. He wrote that the decision to extend LeBron’s contract has not been mutually beneficial for either LeBron or the Lakers. Fans online have reacted to the new reports. While others agreed that it is long overdue for LeBron to be part of a contending team, Lakers fans showed their disappointment.

Mannix asserted, “It was a mistake for James, who doesn?t need the guaranteed cash, pushing his deal through 2023?24 limited his leverage. It was also a mistake for L.A., which didn?t have the pieces to build a title contender around James and (this season, anyway) doesn?t have the flexibility to do anything with him.

LeBron’s last prime years of in the league should not go to waste. According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, LeBron has “become increasingly direct about his dissatisfaction with the Lakers’ struggles“.

With a team struggling to keep their health in check, and alleged trade requests that did not take flight, the Lakers are in a pickle. Despite needing to improve their roster, the Los Angeles Lakers may not make any moves now.

LeBron also spoke to the media recently and said he doesn’t want to retire “playing at this level from a team aspect“. He said he was a winner and he still wanted to compete for the championships. LeBron also said he could play at a championship level “with the right pieces“. With the Lakers’ front office apparently not making any significant move to clean up their lineup, that may trigger LeBron’s trade. The NBA champion wants to get another ring, but with the way the Lakers have underperformed, that could be a distant reality.
