Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were a powerful duo back in the day. They ruled the NBA and became the face of 6 championships. But their electrifying chemistry soon fizzled out. The two eventually drifted apart. In an old interview with Ahmad Rashad, Michael Jordan detailed the evolution of his relationship with Scottie Pippen.

He said that both of them pushed each other’s limits. Jordan confessed that they started in tandem with each other after a while. The interview showed footage of their camaraderie on and off the court.
“It was a big brother-little brother scenario”, Jordan said. He said that they were constantly challenging each other and keeping other in check. He added, “I don’t think you are ever going to have players like that ever again”. Michael Jordan was convinced that both of them grew together and attracted success.
In his memoir, “Unguarded”, Pippen wrote that he wasn’t given enough credit for the team’s victories. He claimed that ‘The Last Dance’ put Jordan in the spotlight and made him a hero. Jordan’s teammates were sidelined as “supporting characters”. According to Pippen, they also didn’t make as much money ad Jordan did for the Last Dance. The docuseries shed light on the 1990s Chicago Bulls.

Scottie Pippen was also unable to forgive Michael Jordan, since the latter had editorial control, and possibly could have changed the narrative.

Pippen also responded to Jordan’s statement that the former was his best teammate. “He couldn’t have been more condescending if he tried”, said Pippen who has regarded himself as an equal to Jordan.
However, in 2021, Pippens echoed a similar sentiment and told, “we were pushing each other, those are still genuine times”. He felt sad that the connections were a thing of the past.
