What makes the NBA world interesting off-court are the ever going debates. The debates might be between two teams or two players. The involvement of veterans and coaches makes such debates even more interesting. The debates, at times, become stale when the comparison is between two teammates. But, more often than not, however good the players might be, their comparison makes it to a hot topic.

While a team might have good players, media will always try to compare them with each other. One such incident which went viral recently is the comparison between Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. While the comparison was a great one itself, the involvement of Dallas Mavericks coach, Jason Kidd, made it even more interesting. So, the topic easily made it to the front page as the people involved are from the same franchise.

Mavericks coach chooses between Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic

A great debate involving the Mavericks recently caught the eyes of the NBA world as their coach had to choose between Irving and Doncic. Irving, having recently joined the Mavericks after the trade from Brooklyn Nets, was put into the limelight straightaway with this comparison. Ahead of Mavericks’ game against Los Angeles Lakers, Jason Kidd was asked a very hard question in the pre-match interview. According to Grant Afseth, the Mavs coach was asked how it feels to have NBA’s elite short-range shot-creators, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, on the floor together.

While Kidd appreciated both of their roles for the Mavericks, he made a hard choice between the two. Kidd made this question trending among fans as he chose Irving over Doncic. Kidd applauded both the superstars for being great at finishing, but made it clear how he thinks one is better than the other. The veteran said, “When you have those two quarterbacks getting into the paint and being able to get to the rim — we would say that Luka is a great finisher, and we would say Kai is the best finisher in the league with either hand.”

Is one better than the other?

While both the Mavericks superstars have great stats at an individual level, their comparison is a big debate. Both are big match players and great finishers. Irving’s stats are obviously better than Doncic’s, as he has played more. However, the finishing ratio of Doncic is better than Irving. While Doncic is still very young, his career is already going towards a great path. Irving having won a championship has a better record than Doncic, but it is still early to predict who will have a bigger career.
