Draft night is a special day on the NBA calendar. Not only does it bring in future prospects to the NBA, but it also revamps the entire look of the league. While Victor Wembanyama expectedly became the first pick in the draft, the second pick surprised many. 19-year-old Scoot Henderson, who was seen training with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry a few days ago, was the heavy favorite to be drafted by the Charlotte Hornets. However, things took a dramatic turn as he slipped down to No.3. Nonetheless, the young prodigy was over the moon as a video uploaded on Instagram showcased. Fans weren’t really pleased with it, though.

The Charlotte Hornets changed that narrative as they drafted Brandon Miller with the second overall pick, which meant that the 19-year-old prot?g? of Stephen Curry was drafted third by the Portland Trail Blazers. The rookie celebrated in a manner that left many fans questioning the young prodigy.

Scoot Henderson has taken quite an unorthodox journey to reach the NBA. While many high school graduates hope for an offer from colleges, Henderson decided to decline two. Receiving offers from Auburn and Georgia, the guard could have played college basketball but decided otherwise.

In 2021, he decided to reclassify to that year’s class and decided to suit up for the NBA G League’s Ignite. Aged 17, Scoot became the youngest player to play in the G-League, making his debut against the South Bay Lakers. The 6’2 guard took part in the 2022 All-Star weekend as well when he competed in the Rising Stars challenge.

Entering the 2023 draft, Scoot was seen as a direct rival to Wembanyama. However, Portland picked the Georgia native third overall, prompting a reaction that left fans unhappy. Henderson could be seen doing the ‘Griddy’ as he was clicked by the media backstage.

The viral dance step has been adopted as a celebration by many sports stars such as Christian Pulisic and Ja Morant to name a few. While his joy in fulfilling his dream and making it to the NBA was clear to see, Scoot didn’t please the NBA world with his moves.
