Many NBA fans consider Scottie Pippen as one of the most underrated NBA legends in the sport of basketball. Pippen was a key player of the illustrious Chicago Bulls championship winning teams. He dominated the NBA alongside Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, and other NBA greats. In fact, Pippen and co. heralded a new era of marketability to the NBA.

Scottie Pippen served as the Chicago Bulls’ talisman when Michael Jordan wasn’t on the court. This was the case in the 1993-94 NBA season during Jordan’s first spell of retirement. Jordan played baseball in the minor leagues while Pippen carried the Bulls team on his shoulders.

What was Scottie Pippen’s early life like?

Scottie Pippen was born on September 25, 1965, in Hamburg, Arkansas to parents Preston and Ethel Pippen. He grew up in a large family and was the youngest of 12 children. Pippen played football and basketball while growing up. His senior year at Hamburg High School included him leading the school team to the state playoffs and earning all-conference honors.

At college, Pippen grew in height and stature as he ultimately stood at 6’8″. He received his college education at the University of Central Arkansas and got selected to the team as a freshman. His senior year at UCA witnessed him average 23.6 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Does Scottie Pippen have a wife and children?

Scottie Pippen has had two marriages, and both unsuccessfully ended with a divorce. He first married Karen McCollum in 1988 and had a son named Antron with her. Antron Pippen passed away recently on April 18, 2021, with Scottie revealing that Antron suffered from chronic asthma. However, Scottie did not disclose his son’s cause of death. Scottie divorced his first wife, Karen, who is a professional musician, in 1990.

The Chicago Bulls legend married his second wife, Larsa Marie Younan On July 20, 1997, in Chicago, Illinois. He shares four children, namely Scotty Jr., Preston, Justin, and Sophia, with Larsa Younan. Scottie filed for divorce in 2016, but eventually decided against it. Nevertheless, the couple filed for divorce again and it became final in 2021. Scottie Jr. has followed in his father’s footsteps and is a sophomore on Vanderbilt University’s basketball team. Pippen’s daughter Sophia made an appearance in the first season of ‘Dancing with the Stars: Juniors’.

Scottie Pippen won six NBA championships with the Bulls and was a part of the three-peat winning teams. The NBA named him an NBA All-Star seven times during his 17 year NBA career and he received six of these All-Star call ups between 1992 and 1997. Pippen was also a part of the renowned 1992 U.S. Olympic “Dream Team”.
