However, Americans barely had time to overcome the impact of Nichols’ death before another grievous news hit them. The recent case of gun violence at Michigan State University left everyone shocked and stunned. Coincidently, it is the same university that Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green graduated from. In response to the heinous act, the NBA star heavy-heartedly addressed the incident in his latest podcast episode.

29-year-old Tyre Nichols fell victim to a case of police brutality that ultimately cost him his life. Consequently, thousands of people held angry protests all over the US seeking justice for Nichols. Similarly, several athletes from the sports world including LeBron James and Magic Johnson condemned the tragic occurrence and did their bit to keep his name alive.

Terror struck on Monday night at Michigan State University when a gunman entered the campus with violent intentions. As per reports by USA Today, the armed individual killed three students and fatally injured five more before he died of a ‘self-inflicted gunshot wound’. In the recent episode of The Volume podcast, NBA star Draymond Green began the segment by talking about his alma mater where the horrific incident took place.

The 4x NBA champion reflected on how safe he had felt at the campus when he was a student there. He stated that he could even walk around the campus at 1 am without feeling constantly in danger. However, the news about the incident both devasted him as an individual and as a parent.

“There’s a kid at Michigan State from Saginaw that felt or feels that they made it out and that feeling has been rocked a bit. To know that that kid from Saginaw or Detroit or Pontiac or Flint or you name it. That feeling is compromised for them, that hurts me,” Green said.

Draymond Green talks about the common occurrences

The 32-year-old NBA forward pointed out that similar cases of mass shootings have become common cases in the US. Therefore, he felt that people have inadvertently become ‘desensitized’ to such incidents, viewing them as regular occurrences, unless someone close to them is hurt.
