?I?m Trying to Kill Him?: Ex-NBA Veteran Remembers Humiliating Michael Jordan-Led-Bulls in 1996

Michael Jordan-led-Bulls levitated onto another level in the 1995-96 season. Most of the teams that played against them tasted defeat on the hardwood. However, a handful of teams defeated them that season, including the?Denver Nuggets. In fact, the Nuggets humiliated the Bulls, and one of their players dominated Jordan throughout the game. Recently, the ex-Nuggets player reminisced how he prepared to confront Michael Jordan and Co. back in the 90s.

The?Chicago Bulls?won 72 games in the 1995-96 season. However, Jordan and Co. suffered a defeat when they locked horns with?Mahmoud Abdul Rauf-led Nuggets in 1996.

Recently, the former NBA veteran?made an appearance on ‘ALL THE SMOKE’ and reminisced about the 1996 Bulls vs. Nuggets game. During the podcast, Matt Barnes(one of the co-hosts) asked Abdul-Rauf to talk about his mindset during the game. In reply, the now 53-year-old said, “They[Bulls] put Jordan at the point guard. They were trying to run him at the point and he had just got back from getting lit up by Damon Stoudemire… I think I was the third visit and I’m saying to myself I don’t want to be the oddball.” As MJ was lit up by Stoudemire and another point guard in previous games, he didn’t want to be the oddball while facing the four-time champion.

Thereafter, the former Nuggets player disclosed how he prepared to confront His Airness on the court. He said, “I’m trying to kill him to get him off of me immediately which ended up working and they started changing up guys.”?

The game between the Nuggets and Bulls ended in favor of the Nuggets(105-99). Abdul-Rauf thoroughly dominated Jordan-led Bulls and wrapped up the game with 32 points, four rebounds, and nine assists.

In a recent interview, Abdul-Rauf said he met MJ at a Nike camp. The former Nuggets player added that the six-time champion was giving a speech and suddenly invited him to play against him on the floor. Subsequently, the 53-year-old added, “He gave me the ball and says I want you to come at me with everything you have and I’m going to try to stop you.”?Therefore, the ex-NBA veteran gave a jab step and scored on him.

However, he didn’t just stop after that. Abdul-Rauf said, “He[Jordan] gives me the ball again. This time I go between my legs, I crossover, I lay him up on the other side.”?
