Dennis Rodman was an eccentric player. He wasn?t known for his offense, but for the things he could do on the defensive side of the floor. An absolute beast on defense, Rodman could take on players who were faster and stronger than him. There wasn?t any position that he could not guard with his relentless energy.

Rodman just knew how to get under the other players’ skin and force them to make mistakes on the floor. Being an undersized power forward, Rodman was by far one of the best rebounders to ever play the game.

Dennis Rodman and his contributions to the game

There were times when he would end the game with zero points but 15 or 20-plus rebounds for the night. And that translated to his team generating some quick fast-break offense on a nightly basis.

Rodman was famously known for his time with the Chicago Bulls, playing alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. A lot of people also remember him being part of the ?Bad Boy? Pistons as well. As he did win his first two championships with the team.

However, a lot of people overlook the time he had spent with the San Antonio Spurs back in the day. After his time with the Detroit Pistons, Rodman played two seasons for the San Antonio Spurs before making his way to the Chicago Bulls.

Rodman played for the Spurs from 1993 to 1995. And as many overlook his time in San Antonio, the five-time NBA champion’s two seasons over there were quite underrated. He averaged 17.3 RPG for the Spurs in his first season there.

Even though Rodman could not quite fit in with the Spurs organization, he talked about his time playing for San Antonio in an interview in 1996. Rodman mentioned how the Spurs front office was always worried as to what he was up to and what he was doing. The seven-time rebounding champion described the organization’s behavior to be ‘erratic.’ He said, ?I?m surprised nobody tried to sleep with me and stay in my bed 24 hours a day.?

Rodman and his time with the Spurs

The Worm explained how the Spurs did not let him be himself whereas when he joined the Bulls, coach Phil Jackson would not bat an eye on his activities. Jackson understood Dennis and what he needed to do in order to be the best at what he does on the floor.

Rodman also mentioned that the Spurs could not handle the situation and the things that he was doing. But he explained how some of the things he was doing were to try and help the team and motivate his teammates.

Even though Rodman did not get the right recognition in the Spurs organization, he sure got the right support cast when he came to the Chicago Bulls in Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan.
