Shaquille O’Neal is a shining beacon in the NBA. Post his retirement, Shaq has donned various professional hats. He has worked as a sports analyst and a DJ. And Shaq is now in the news for something entirely different, and it’s got something to do with food – fast food, in particular. Shaq is a part investor in a fast-food chain that specializes in chicken dishes, and the recent opening of a store of fast-food franchise has Shaq showing his generous side once again, and he had good reason for it.

Shaq was present at the opening of Big Chicken in America’s 4th most populous city. While he was at it, he ensured that nobody left hungry – paying for everything on the menu that went through the order on that day. And he had good reason to.

Shaquille O’Neal is one of the three investors in Big Chicken, a franchise that has a menu that includes dishes right from chicken sandwiches to slides and fries. While at the franchise’s outlet opening in Houston, Shaq told Houston Press, “I just want to thank the people of Houston for coming out. I love the turnout but if it was ten people or one hundred people, I’m going to be thankful. Chicken sandwiches, chicken tacos, chicken everything.”

“When the opportunity came to create this franchise, we had a meeting and sold over 250. This is the first to open in Houston. I just wanted people to come out so I’m paying for everything today. Try it. If you like it, cool. If you don’t, let me know why because we want to make this one of the best restaurants out here.”

Whether it’s a smart business move to have the crowd try out food for free or whether it was Shaq genuinely wanting to throw a feast to the community is anyone’s guess, but the opening of Big Chicken, Houston was a big draw.

People were all over, and Shaq even posed for photos. The franchise started in 2018. While the other two investors are corporates, Shaq is the face of the franchise and is part of several interviews and articles about Big Chicken, a company that’s still actively looking to sign up new locations.
