However, the 6x NBA champion recently suffered a scary life-threatening incident that prompted him to be rushed to the hospital.?

Consequently, after the near-fatal incident, the 6x MVP made a cautious admission in the recent edition of his weekly newsletter. Moreover, he also unveiled his noble cause to prevent others from going through something similar.?

In this week’s edition of Kareem’s Substack, the 2x Finals MVP harped on the recent health episode that put him on the stretcher to the hospital. As per his narration, over the past few years, Abdul-Jabbar was fighting an unusual health condition that induced shortness of breath and made him feel lightheaded when he woke up. But disregarding it as an aging-related symptom, the Los Angeles Lakers legend didn’t do much about it.?

However, it turned out that he had a concerning heart condition known as atrial fibrillation or AFib. He became cognizant of the condition when he was rushed to the hospital a few months back. Incidentally, the Milwaukee Bucks legend had gone to a baseball game with his friends. However, after the game, he admitted to feeling extremely lightheaded, so much so that he thought he would faint. Consequently, his friend and manager, Deborah, who was with him at the time, rushed him to the hospital.?

Abdul-Jabbar makes a crucial commitment

After finding out that he was diagnosed with AFib, which reportedly affects 9.5 million people around the US and is also responsible for 158,000 deaths yearly, the 75-year-old took drastic measures to change his lifestyle. Moreover, he also made some crucial admissions about his plan of action for the future if he underwent a similar episode. In his newsletter, Abdul-Jabbar emphasized how he would not ignore his symptoms in the future, if they arise again.

He added,?”I’ve also reached an agreement with my body: when I get certain symptoms I won’t “walk it off,” “rub some dirt on it,” or “grin and bear it.” I’m going straight to a medical professional.”

Under the same agenda, the 19x All-Star also unveiled his plans to tie up with Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer in their ‘No Time to Wait’?campaign to raise awareness about AFib and its symptoms.
