Shaquille O’Neal was one of the toughest players in the NBA. His physicality and aggressiveness were among his biggest assets. Things would often get ugly because of this with him on the court. And Shaquille O’Neal wouldn’t hold back either. He would be unafraid of anyone and would do anything to get his team to the finish line. Shaq would try to get back at anyone who would go against him or his team.
The big man’s sheer strength was exceptional even when he had just come into the league. He was breaking backboards before he even began to break records. However, his mother loved him very much and used to be worried about him. Shaq made special efforts to make sure his mother didn’t see his ugly side on the court.

Shaquille O’Neal took special care of his mother
Shaquille O’Neal was very caring about his mother and stepfather. He came from a very humble background and he was thus connected to his mother and stepfather a lot. However, he had a special spot for his mother. He said on the ‘Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend’ podcast, “I’m a mama’s boy.”

He went on to talk about how his mother used to always be worried about him as he had joined the NBA so young. Shaq said, “I would always picture my mother sitting, watching me on TV, so I said to myself, ‘Ok, I gotta do everything positive so when she sees it, she smiles.”
Shaquille O’Neal also was very particular about spending money because of his mother. He reiterates the incident about how he had bought his mother and stepfather a house of their own. Shaq had taken her ‘house shopping’ when they found a place his mother liked. He went and bought the house outright and gave her the set of keys. This was undoubtedly an emotional moment for him and his mother.
