Kyrie Irving probably became one of the most hated athletes recently and the reason was apparent. In the latest episode of The Pivot Podcast, Jay Williams was asked what made him take such a risky stance on the Kyrie Irving matter. Williams replied that he could understand Irving’s purpose and intent behind his action. However, he did not agree with the way Irving chose to explain the purpose of his movie post. Williams further clarified that if it were him, he would have first asked the people commenting on the matter whether they had watched the entire video. A lot of people apparently made such comments based on just a few excerpts and incomplete information.
“If I were to advise Kyrie I would say, ‘Hey, when you go to the podium, right out the gate, if there was anything in that film that you disagree with, state that, real quick. If there were little tidbits about Hitler and, you know talking about the Holocaust never occurred, like, take care of that right away,'” said Williams.
Furthermore, he stated that he understood Irving was under a constant pressure of answering to someone. However, Williams believed that Irving could have done things differently had he taken an alternative way of explaining his actions.

All they had to do was apologize and the matter would be diffused. However, in Irving’s situation, an apology was deemed not enough.
