Austin Tyler Reaves signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in August 2021. When he made his debut in the NBA in October 2022, he scored eight points in the 115–105 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Reaves spoke with Trevor Lane in an interview with Lakers Nation about his first season with the Lakers, why he chose Los Angeles, his contract, the leadership of LeBron James, and more.

In the interview, he explained how he ended up with the Lakers as he wanted to show his best efforts in the teams he goes to and his experiences as a Lakers player. He talked particularly about how he came back from his injury.
He explained that this is a sport, and you need to handle injuries correctly. However, in his case, he jumped back on the court and did not do it in the right direction. After all, it’s sports and there are injuries to be had.

During the conversation, Lane asked Reaves about his performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Reaves’ best shot was estimated to be 25 minutes during the match. He was the only player with this amount of time. As Lane asked Reaves about his efforts to gain the trust of the coaching staff. After returning from injury, he had started well.

In his explanation, he told him he gives the team his 100 percent. It was his intent to learn things first, therefore when any senior or LeBron James said anything, he listened and acted as such because these players and staff are experienced and he wants to take advantage of that knowledge. He regarded cooperating towards team success as a priority. The focus is on team success. This is why he gained so much trust from the team members.
Moreover, they discussed how to work in the right direction in the world of basketball. A member of the Lakers carries a lot of expectations from the fans, and you need to be at your best to handle those expectations.
