In 2016, Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors. Durant had a fantastic time with the Dubs. Playing alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, the splash brothers. KD and Steph lead the Warriors to the Finals, 3 consecutive times while winning 2 of them. Having his best seasons with the Warriors, Durant moved on in 2019, when he signed with the Brooklyn Nets.
Kevin’s time with the Warriors would definitely go down in the books. Giving his best to the organization, Durant deserves some respect back from the Warriors. It is a defining moment when a player gets his jersey retired, especially by multiple teams. So does Durant, but the fans have a different opinion.

Being a 2-time Finals MVP for the Warriors and leading the team in scoring multiple times, Durant defines a few seasons for the Warriors. Fans had many reasons to share their opinion about Durant wanting his jersey retired by the Warriors.

Nah, he was the journeyman. He was great and helped get two rings but hes not on that curry, dirk, mj level of importance to the franchise

Use the same argument with Lebron in Miami. He was there for 4 seasons winning two titles. Should he have his jersey retired by them?
Besides from personal accolades, how was LBJ’s tenure in Miami different than KD’s in Golden State?
That’s just my thoughts

If they gonna retire Bron’s jersey in Miami for winning 2 rings they should just do the same for KD

It is a bit awkward to see Durant even mentioning about his jersey retirement. Every team respects their former star players’ contribution. Wilt Chamberlain had his jersey retired by the Warriors, 76ers and the Lakers. Whereas, Michael Jordan had his jersey retired but the Bulls and the Heat, the team he didn’t even play for.
This is how players’ legacy is resepcted by the teams they’ve played for. Fans can expect somewhat similar from the Thunder and the Warriors.

Durant had spent seasons with the Thunder. KD, after his rookie season, met Westbrook. Both young guns glued up pretty well, leading their team to the NBA Finals in 2012. In 2012 Finals, Thunder had a young roster, including Westbrook, Durant and Harden. Though the young trio lost, they showed the league what they were made of.
Fast forward 5 years, and Kevin alongside Curry and Thompson won back-to-back championships for the Warriors. In 2019, after the Warriors came up short versus the Raptors in the Finals, Durant joined Nets in the East. So far Durant has put up MVP numbers for the Nets, though still haven’t won a championship. The Nets have never won a title and with Durant, Irving and reliable role players, they have a great chance.
