Former NBA player and Hall of Famer Charles Barkley made an enduring impression on the league. He was shorter than the average NBA power forward at 6’6″, but his strength and agility made him a formidable opponent. Barkley spent his 16 NBA seasons with the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns?and Philadelphia 76ers. Being one of the best rebounders in NBA history by the end of his career, Barkley was also well-known for this ability of his.

As a talented basketballer as such, Barkley received multiple commendations for his skills. He was an Olympic gold medalist, an 11-time All-Star and the 1993 NBA MVP. He recently appeared on the Dan Patrick Show, where he talked about his most prized awards.

During his recent appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, NBA icon Charles Barkley discussed the various prizes he has received throughout his 16 seasons in the league. Barkley said that he has given away most of his awards to his mother and grandmother. He did not personally place much significance on them. Chuck added that many of the minor prizes he had achieved over the years were largely pointless and that he would rather focus on accomplishing his next goal.

However, he pointed out that there were (only) two trophies that he actually cared about – his two gold medals and his Most Valuable Player award, which he considers to be the only things that actually deserve to be put on display. Dan, the host, then asked how much the MVP award would cost him, “If I give you $25,000?” This left Chuck bewildered, and he responded appropriately to the hosts’ disrespectful price tag.

He said, “You’re not gonna get, you ain’t gonna get a finger. You’re not even going, you’re not even gonna get one of the legs.? You’re not even gonna get one of the legs on the MVP trophy for $25,000. Come on, Dan!”

Though the host laughed to clarify that he wasn’t serious, the interview also featured some other tense moments, such as when Barkley spoke about his relationship with NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Chuck and Jordan have had a famous feud

In the same interview, the former NBA player discussed his strained relationship with Michael Jordan. Jordan and Chuck shared a deep bond for a long time. However, things got tense when Chuck criticized Jordan’s ownership of the Charlotte Hornets. Chuck’s comment didn’t sit right with Jordan and their friendship has been strained since.

Barkley said, “They behave like we’re Prince William and Prince Harry,” comparing their situation jokingly to that of the British royal family. Barkley still views Jordan as a brother and wants the best for him despite their disagreements. He agreed that it was terrible that things became so tense between them and expressed hope that they will mend their friendship soon.

Barkley’s remarks demonstrate that despite their differences, he still has a great deal of respect for Jordan and for their friendship. However, it is well known that basketballers often find themselves in feuds such as these. Almost all popular icons indulge in some form of banter or the other. Perhaps Dan Patrick took the liberty of messing with Barkley’s MVP award for the same reason!
