Dwyane Wade recently made some controversial claims about the Miami Heat. While his opinions came from a place of love for his ‘big brother’, the NBA community felt otherwise. As a product of Heat culture and the best Miami Heat player ever, Wade’s opinion certainly holds a lot of value. However, when the opinions seem to come out of nowhere, without any obvious logic, it can lead to understandable skepticism. While Udonis Haslem certainly left a mark on Heat culture, Flash?might have taken it a step too far.

The end of the NBA Finals also saw the end of a legendary career. Udonis Haslem played his final NBA game and retired after 20 years with the Miami Heat. As a tribute to his former teammate, Dwyane Wade penned down a heartfelt note for UD. While touching, some say the letter went a little overboard.
First, Wade called Haslem the biggest reason for the Heat’s championship win in 2006. Further to that, Wade highlighted him as his favorite teammate, both on and off the court. For a player that donned the Heat jersey alongside all-time greats such as Shaquille O’Neal and Lebron James, that is some seriously high praise.
At the end of the letter, however, is when things got out of hand. While acknowledging the great players that have suited up for the organization, Wade claimed that Haslem had the greatest career for the Miami Heat.

“He has had the greatest career in Miami Heat history? The franchise has had Shaq, Tim Hardaway, Alonzo [Mourning], LeBron, and Chris Bosh?a line of Hall of Famers. But, there?s one that stands above us all. That?s Udonis Haslem.”?
However, fans had a very different reaction when the letter became public and blasted Wade’s claims.
Fans do not see eye-to-eye on Flash’s UD remarks
As the news became official, fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion. A fan called out the obvious discrepancy between UD and Bron, and what it would mean to commemorate one without celebrating the other.
If he gets a statue and Lebron doesn't the Heat franchise needs to be demoted to the G League

More fans joined in with similar opinions. One fan understood the sentiment but did not agree with Wade’s choice of words, finding them “dishonest.”
Bro just say he is a great guy and player, don’t have to be dishonest

The folks over at Betting Pros were simple in their rebuttal. LeBron’s iconic ‘Silencer’ celebration says it all.

Some fans even claimed that Wade was diluting his own greatness and impact on the Heat’s legacy with his spurious claims.
Bud forgotten it’s him who has the greatest career by any heat player 😭

However, a few fans did appreciate the perspective Wade took and shed some light on his thinking.

While Udonis Haslem’s legacy might not cut it for flashy statistic pages, his impact was intangible and undeniable. As a glue guy, as a veteran, as a leader, he was unmatched. Regardless of his own talent, he elevated loads of other NBA greats and for that, his contributions cannot be ignored.
So even though he might not be the most prolific, Wade’s comments, from a cultural standpoint, do make some sense.
