The 1997-98 season marked one of the most difficult campaigns for MJ and his Bulls. Hence, the 1998 Finals proved to be one of the most enduring testimonies of Jordan’s greatness.
Game-Worn Michael Jordan jersey expected to go for $5 million
The jersey up for auction was worn by Michael Jordan in Game 1 of the 1998 Finals, held on the third of June in Salt Lake City. The Chicago Bulls lost the game 85-88 in overtime.
However, Jordan dropped 33 points, shooting 44.8% from the field. Such a dominant performance on the road from the Bulls leader would really set the tone for the rest of the series. In fact, the Bulls would go on to bag the second road game to level the series 1-1.
According to Sotheby’s, this is only the second game-worn Finals jersey of MJ to ever be up for auction. The 1997-98 season gained traction among the masses after the blockbuster success of Netflix’s The Last Dance. In other words, the docuseries captured the tensions and conflicts within the franchise during the Bulls’ last championship win.
