NBA all-time great Michael Jordan has been an inspiration for many generations. A lot of current players in the NBA are huge fans of the man as well. While most players are too young to have watched MJ play, they sure know about his greatness. Jordan has been one of the most influential players on and off the court.

His partnership with Nike brought the “Air Jordan” to the world, which changed the sneaker culture in the country. Now, the “Air Jordan” brand is a worldwide brand with endorsement deals with many high-profile athletes and teams around the world.

In the NBA, one of its high-profile athletes is superstar Luka Doncic. The Slovenian came to the league after playing three years for Real Madrid in the Spanish League. In 2018, he helped the team win the Euro League and also won the Euro League MVP award.

The Atlanta Hawks drafted him as the third pick in the draft and then made a straight swap with the Dallas Mavericks for Trae Young who was the fifth overall pick. Doncic signed a $207 million contract extension with the Mavs last year as per reports.

Luka Doncic turned into a fan when he met Michael Jordan

Luka Doncic hit the ground running and won the Rookie of the Year award. While playing for Real Madrid, Doncic had a deal with Nike. However, in 2019, he signed a deal with “Air Jordan” and has been one of the faces of the brand.

Now, the all-star has unveiled his first ever signature shoe, the “Luka 1”. After the unveiling, he gave an interview where he talked about the shoe and about meeting Michael Jordan for the first time.

Doncic said, “I met him at my first all-star game. I think there was some celebration of something, I don’t know. But I was too nervous. I didn’t know what to say… I was just saying ‘Hi’. Then ‘How are you?’ I think something like that. Nothing more.”

Doncic first made the all-star team in 2020 and has been making it ever since. During the 2022 all-star game, the league had the NBA75 celebration where the best 75 players in history were honored. Obviously, Jordan was there, and he embraced Doncic when the two met.

When asked about it, Doncic had a similar reaction and turned into a fan. He disclosed that it was an amazing moment and it cannot be explained. Doncic admitted that MJ knowing his name is a lot for him.
