Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan recently turned 60 on February 17 as he celebrated his big day by making a grand gesture. While Michael Jordan is known for his utmost domination in the NBA and his massive $1.7 billion empire, the six-time NBA champ has given away millions of dollars for charitable causes throughout his journey. Jordan has made some impactful philanthropic efforts in the field of education, medicine, community development, and disaster relief. However, his biggest charitable endeavor has undoubtedly been his 34-year association with the Make-A-Wish foundation. Recently, MJ made the biggest donation in the history of the organization on his birthday. Moreover, his relationship with the Make-A-Wish foundation once inspired a nine-year-old boy into a career path of saving lives.

On his 60th birthday, Michael Jordan recently donated $10 million donation to the Make-A-Wish foundation which aims to fulfill the wishes of children suffering from chronic diseases like cancer. Over his 34-year journey with the foundation, MJ has fulfilled the wishes of countless children worldwide. Notably, a meeting with the 14-time All-Star in 2009 inspired a kid to help other children with his unique initiative.

Jordan inspired a kid to help people in need

As per a Fox 10 Phoenix report, in 2009, a then-nine-year-old boy named Donovan, who was battling with cancer got to meet Michael Jordan for the first time. The young man recently revealed his experience of meeting MJ and how the incident helped shape his non-profit initiative. Donovan shared that he was ‘amazed’ to see Michael Jordan for the first time as a kid.

Moreover, Donovan stated,?“I was probably four-foot nothing, looking up at a six-foot-six man, like, big presence, huge hand, and the first thing he said to me is ‘what’s up, dude? Let’s talk. Let’s chat,’ and I was, like, mouth open. Starstruck. Didn’t know what to say.”

After his life-altering meeting with MJ, Donovan decided to provide a similar experience to other people in need of support. Donovan said, “It encouraged me to start my own nonprofit to help other kids with cancer right after that experience.”

Donovan reckoned that meeting Jordan changed his life as the young man started his own non-profit to provide people with a similar experience he had as a kid while fighting a fatal disease.?

Jordan shares the joy of partnership with Make A Wish

The $10 million donation from Michael Jordan was the biggest amount the foundation had ever received from a single person in Make-A-Wish’s 43-year history. The NBA Hall of Famer has also been the foundation’s ambassador since 2008. Recently, Michael Jordan shared in a statement how proud he was of his partnership with the foundation. The Bulls legend stated that he was honored to have an opportunity to bring happiness to the lives of many kids.?
