Everyone probably has at least one story from their teenage years that resulted in them being grounded by their parents. Evidently, NBA stars are no different. They also had to go through a similar period before going on to become some of the best players in the sports world. While lying should never be encouraged, it just so happens that sometimes you blurt out an innocent lie to your parents in order to go out and have fun with your peers. Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum recalled one such incident that he went on to regret later.
The Boston Celtics are the top contenders in the Eastern Conference and Jayson Tatum is a major reason why. Amidst all the hustle and bustle of the 2023 regular season, the 3x NBA All-Star took time out for an interview, where he took a trip down the memory lane.

In a recent interview with Graham Bensinger, Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum shared an incident from when he was 16 years only and took up a ‘window of opportunity’ that he eventually regretted. According to Tatum, he had made plans to go out with his best friend to St. Louis University on a Saturday night. However, he couldn’t tell his mom the truth, therefore he instead lied and told her that he would be staying over at his best friend’s house.
“I obviously told my mom we were just staying at the house because I know she wouldn’t want me to go hang out at a university. I was only 16 and we went out we was out to like 1:30,” Tatum told Bensinger.

Tatum added that they only went out to play video games and have pizza, but regretted as it wasn’t worth lying to his mother for.
“It wasn’t even worth it. Like…it wasn’t like a party. We literally went down there and we was playing video games and we ate pizza. We were just hanging out but I know my mom didn’t want me down there. So looking back on it wasn’t worth it,” the 24-year-old NBA star said.
He then went back to his friend’s house and spent the night there. However, Tatum was filled with dread when he found 37 missed calls from his mom the next morning. The 2020 Olympic gold medalist then shared how he felt bad for disrespecting his mother and for betraying her trust.
