But when the time came to adjust, the three-time NBA champion was selfless. Letting LeBron James be the man, ‘Flash’ was willing to do anything to win. He spoke about the time his daughter broke the news to him and Gabrielle Union. However, instead of panicking, Dwyane Wade assumed responsibility. As a father, Wade became the rock for his young daughter. And he and his wife immediately began reaching out for help.

Wade said: “When our child comes home with an issue, when our child comes home with anything, it is our job as parents to listen to that, to give them the best information that we can, the best feedback that we can. And that doesn’t change because sexuality is now involved in it.”

“So once Zaya, our 12-year-old came home.. and said ‘Hey, I want to talk to you guys. I think going forward, I’m ready to live my truth. I want to be referred to as she and her, I would love for you guys to call me Zaya.”

Wade’s incredible approach toward Zaya has arguably helped her thrive in her truth. Despite all the outside criticism, the NBA Hall of Famer stuck by his daughter. And even to this day, Wade is helping out his 15-year-old. Notably, Dwyane Wade signed a petition for Zaya to legally change her name and gender.
