Trash-talking has been an NBA norm for the longest time. It has been a tool to rile up opponents and also to instill a sense of confidence and mastery over someone else. Charles Barkley, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan are just a few of the players who pegged trash talk to their advantage.

During a recent episode on ‘The Scorer’s Table’, Wilson Chandler, a former New York Knicks player revealed an interesting and juicy trash-talking incident.

During a game between the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics, things got heated quickly. Celtics legend Paul Pierce was fouled with minutes left on the clock. As Pierce walks over to the free throw line, Chandler’s teammate Amar’e Stoudemire gave a pep talk to his team. He told them that they were going to ensure Pierce missed the shot.

Wilson Chandler knew that Stoudemire had not directed the insult to Pierce. But Paul Pierce responded to Stoudemire fiercely. He questioned him and challenged him if Stoudemire was indeed talking about Pierce. According to Chandler, Pierce went on to say that he had been in too many games, and that it was impossible to miss free throws for him.

Trash-talking Pierce made his point

Pierce also said, “I only argue with Kobes and LeBrons”, before sinking a clean shot.

Chandler recalled the whole incident and labeled it as the “most subtle, gangsta s*** ever”.

Paul Pierce’s statement held him in the fine company of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. He considered them his equals. By putting Stoudemire in his place, Pierce reminded everyone else that they were inferior to him.

Although, the Knicks player has not had the number of championships, awards, and impressive records that Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have to their names.

Paul Pierce was christened ‘The Truth‘ by Shaquille O’Neal. After scoring 42 points against the Lakers, Shaq was impressed with Pierce. He admitted that he wasn’t aware that Pierce could play that well. Pierce was known for his consistency on the hardwood across his career.

He never held any no.1 records in any statistical department, but he always made the list. Bill Simmons claimed that there has never been a wing player like Paul Pierce.
