Before 1995, Dennis Rodman was in a difficult place. His commitment to the game of basketball was questioned and he was going through a lot of problems off the court. But then he went to the Chicago Bulls led by Michael Jordan, and he admitted that this changed his life. In addition, he once revealed in an interview that he never played for money, despite declaring bankruptcy at one point in time.
Just before Rodman joined the Bulls, his reputation had taken a massive hit in the NBA. He was called out for not being a team player. Rodman did not have a great time playing at the San Antonio Spurs. So it would have been hard to imagine what Rodman’s thought process was when came to the Bulls, one of the top contenders in the league at that time.

But he had a great stint with the Bulls, as both Jordan and Pippen welcomed him with open arms. And the Bulls immediately became the best team in the league. Subsequently, they went on to win three titles in a row. Going to the Bulls also changed Rodman’s life forever.

Rodman opened up on what he was going through at that time and how going to Chicago helped him out. In an interview, he said, “I had no guidance, no direction. I lived in San Antonio, I went to Chicago, I think Chicago helped me out a lot… people actually liked me.”

“I love pleasing people… I never played the game for money, I never have,” he added.
Rodman thus admitted that he never played the game for money, and he did it for his joy. Even though a few years ago, he had to file for bankruptcy. Rodman had lived a flamboyant lifestyle throughout, despite having to pay child support. But eventually, all of this was sorted out.

Rodman said he found a purpose when he was in Chicago. He appreciated being liked by people and he had fun. He was finally able to express himself as a person and showcase his identity after a tough time. And he cemented his place as one of the greatest players to ever live.
