WNBA star Brittney Griner once opened up about the hate she had to endure over the years because of her body. She once revealed that her schoolmates used to tease her for her long hands, feet, and deep voice. The Phoenix Mercury star also disclosed that she would just go to her room and cry because of all the bullying. Sometimes, she felt like she did not know what her purpose was and questioned herself. However, she found her purpose when she found her passion in basketball in the ninth grade. Soon she became one of the top basketball prospects in the country.

But the hate comments and negativity did not stop. However, she slowly learned to become comfortable with her own body and stopped caring about negative comments. Griner said that she would describe her as ?athletically lanky?. She added that it would be boring if everyone in the world looked the same.

In 2015, she was one of the multiple athletes who posed for ESPN The Magazine’s annual ‘Body Issue.’ She was conscious that many would have something critical to say about her body.

Griner admitted that after the release of the magazine, there will be people with negative comments and reactions. But she does not care about it. The towering center suggested that it is her body, and that she is comfortable in it. The former WNBA champion said that people would either accept her as she is or not. And she can’t control it.

Griner said, “People are either going to accept me for who I am or they?re not. I don?t know what people think I?m hiding I just want people to see somebody who embraces being naked, embraces everything about them being different.”

When the 2-time Olympic gold medalist first came out to her parents, her mother was welcoming. But her father was not. So she moved and lived with an assistant coach from her high school. However, he came around and mended things. After high school, she joined Baylor University to play for the Baylor Bears women’s team. She soon became an icon with her displays on the hardwood.

However, her school tried to stop her from openly talking about her sexuality. But she still helped lead the Lady Bears to win the NCAA championship in 2012.
