“I Got Called Fat When I Said That Last Week”: Charles Barkley Gets Defensive Over Trae Young’s Response to His Comments

Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley revealed the Eastern All-Star reserves in an episode of NBA on TNT. They broke down their games and their importance to their respective teams. Zach LaVine has been named as an All-Star reserve this season.

While revealing his name, Shaq says that “he definitely should have been a starter.” To which Charles Barkley replied, “I got called fat when I said that last week”. 

To provide some context here, Charles Barkley said that Trae Young did not deserve the All-Star starter spot and it should have gone to LaVine. Charles Barkley took to NBA on TNT to express his opinions about this issue. Once he said that Zach LaVine deserves the spot more, Trae Young replied to him through Twitter.

“Eat a twinkie and be quiet sometimes”

Trae Young is currently averaging 28.1 points, 4 rebounds, and 9.2 assists. Therefore, he definitely qualifies to be an All-Star starter. Moreover, he is also the face and leader of his franchise. Charles Barkley’s reasoning was that Trae Young does not deserve to be a start because his team is lacking in terms of wins.

The Atlanta Hawks are currently sitting at the number 10 position in the Eastern Conference. Their record is 25-26. They have barely qualified for the play-in tournament. However, Chicago Bulls, on the other hand, have the best record in the East.

Compared to Trae, LaVine is averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. Therefore, it is clear that Trae Young definitely deserves a spot on the roster. NBA All-Star selection is done on the basis of personal stats and number of votes, not on how well their team is performing.

Other All-Star Reserves

The other All-Star reserves in the East are Jimmy Butler, Darius Garland, James Harden, Zach Lavine, Khris Middleton, Jayson Tatum, and Fred VanVleet.

One name that stands out here is Fred VanVleet. After years of hard work, he has finally achieved his first All-Star selection. The 27-year-old player has been in the league for 5 years. It is good to see his talent being appreciated for once.

Fred VanVleet has been a consistent performer and a good shooter for the Toronto Raptors. He had a huge role on the team when the Raptors won their first championship in 2019. He is currently averaging 21.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists.
